Bahia Hariri rules out possibility of Sunni-Shiite strife

Following a consultative meeting in Sidon, a statement released said that the incidents that took place in Sidon came within a general tense atmosphere not only limited to the city itself, stressing keenness on preventing strife and avoiding a “political exploitation of the incidents”.               

In the wake of the meeting chaired by MP Bahia Hariri and held in the presence of MP Fouad Siniora, the conferees stressed to need to support the Lebanese government and the security and military institutions, urging the authorities to pay the compensations and accelerate the detection of damages in order for citizens to return to their homes the soonest possible.               

For her part, MP Bahia Hariri ruled out the possibility of an outbreak of strife between the Sunnis and the Shiites in the city of Sidon, noting that citizens need the protection of the state and the security institutions.
