EDL contract workers burn tires, block EDL's entrance

Electricité du Liban contract workers burnt tires in front of the company's entrance in Karantina Tuesday ahead of the legislative session at Parliament in protest of the referral of the law related to the implementation of their permanent tenure.

Protesters said the referred law does not represent their demands, nor does it fairly depict the items that had been agreed upon during discussions between the two parties ahead of the session.

EDL contract workers have been protesting for months calling on the government to employ them as full-time staff and to pay their salaries. Their protests have included shutting the gates of EDL headquarters in Beirut and disrupting normal work at the state-run company.
