Change and Reform bloc calls for fully controlling Lebanese borders

        
Caretaker Minister of Energy Gebran Bassil read on Tuesday an initiative drafted by the Change and Refom Bloc regarding the continuous influx of Syrian and Palestinian refugees into the Lebanese territories.                 

In this context, Minister Bassil said the issue of the Syrian refugees has become an existential crisis, adding that “there was no need to reiterate the negative effects it would entail on the Lebanese society.”             

In its initiative, the Change and Reform Bloc said the Palestinian and Syrian refugees’ entry to Lebanon should come to an end, adding that Lebanese borders should be fully controlled.              

The bloc stressed that Lebanese authorities should cooperate with Syrian authorities and officials to return displaced Syrians into their homes, highlighting the importance of working with international organizations in order to secure all humanitarian needs for these refugees.                       

The bloc also called for counting the number of displaced Syrians in Lebanon, monitoring their work and movements, and removing any illegal construction they build.         

On behalf of the bloc, Minister Bassil concluded by saying that items of this initiative may be directly implemented since they do not require any exceptional decisions that need the cabinet's approval.
