MP Kanaan: Deliberations over the 8-8-8 formula are "useless"

MP Ibrahim Kanaan voiced on Thursday his regrets over the failure of Lebanese leaders to form a new government, adding that the deliberations over the 8-8-8 formula are "useless."

MP Kanaan's comments came in an interview with Al Ousbou' Al Arabi magazine and The Magazine set to be published on Friday in which he said that the head of the Change and Reform bloc MP Michel Aoun will not step down from the leadership of the Free Patriotic Movement.

He also noted that the role of MP Michel Aoun is not limited to the FPM but he also represents the Christians in Lebanon and defends their rights.

MP Kanaan slammed the extension of President Michel Sleiman's mandate, saying that the presidential elections will be pure Lebanese elections.

He stressed that Lebanon is in dire need of a president who would improve the presidency and its role, ruling out the possibility of electing "a consensual president."

MP Kanaan concluded by confirming the existence of some political disputes between MP Michel Aoun and MP Sleiman Frangieh, adding that the alliance between the FPM and the Marada movement will "remain unchanged."
