Maronite Bishops wary of situation in Syria
The Maronite Bishops Council said on Wednesday that “supporting Arab causes should not be carried out by spreading tension into Lebanon”, adding that the bishops are following up closely on the regional developments and are wary of the security situation in Syria.

During their regular meeting in Bkerke, the Maronite Bishops welcomed the breakthrough achieved regarding the STL funding, urging the cabinet to assume its responsibility and address pressing issues, namely appointments.

The Maronite Bishops voiced their concerns over the security events in Lebanon, from the firing of rockets to various alarming incidents, stressing that the state’s sovereignty cannot withstand any fragmentation or compromise.

The Maronite Bishops added that they fear that the decree to withdraw the nationality of those who obtained it fraudulently is a selective procedure, urging the political and judicial authorities to assume full responsibilities with transparence and fairness.

The priests welcomed the issuance of a law that addresses the issue of those forcibly deported to Israel, hoping that they will return home with dignity and as soon as possible.
