Salam welcomes decision to give LAF full control over Tripoli

The Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam welcomed Tuesday the decision that was taken on Monday to give the Lebanese Armed Forces full control over the northern city of Tripoli for a period of six months, and placing all the security apparatuses under its command. Salam pointed out that cooperation between the political forces and dealing equally with all the rival parties are the conditions for the success of the plan.

In a statement he issued, Salam noted that the said decision is a fundamental step aiming at putting an end to the bloodshed suffered by the residents of Tripoli, regardless of their affiliations, hoping that the army’s efforts will restore the normal political and economic life in the city.

In this context, the PM-Designate said that implementing this urgent mission imposes on the political officials to assume their national responsibility and commit to their vows and promises to lift the political cover off the gunmen, who are tarnishing Tripoli’s image.
