MP Jumblatt: Hariri's latest position reflects his rationality and sense of national responsibility

National Struggle Front Leader MP Walid Jumblatt praised on Monday the latest stance voiced by former Prime Minister Saad Hariri during which he rejected dragging Lebanon's Sunnis into the conflict between Hezbollah and al-Qaeda, stressing that Hariri's position reflects his rationality and sense of national responsibility.

MP Jumblatt pointed out that regional and local developments are critical, adding that terrorist bombings are claiming the lives of innocent civilians.

In his weekly stance to the Al-Anbaa newspaper, MP Jumblatt said stances similar to those made by former PM Hariri are important at a time when sit-ins are being held in front the Defense Ministry demanding the release of a suspect who remains under interrogation.

On Sunday, a number of Muslim scholars and clerics who hail from Lebanon's Bekaa staged a protest in front the Defense Ministry to condemn the arrest of Sheikh Omar al-Atrash who is reportedly involved in recent bomb attacks in Lebanon.

The Lebanese Army Intelligence arrested Omar al-Atrash Friday January 24, on charges of being involved in recruiting suicide bombers, smuggling rigged cars and explosive belts and planning terrorist attacks that have recently rocked the southern suburb of Beirut and Hermel.

On Sunday 25 January, al-Atrash confessed to bringing car bombs, explosive belts and suicide bombers to Lebanon.
