Erslan meets with Zarif in Iran, discusses regional developments

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Jawad Zarif praised the role of the Resistance in Lebanon, hoping that the Lebanese people will be able to prevent occupation and foreign intervention from harming the country’s unity and sovereignty.

Following his meeting with the head of the Lebanese Democratic Party Talal Erslan in Iran, Zarif said that the events taking place in Syria are a catastrophe, noting that extremism is a plague that spread across the Middle East. He urged for reaching a solution for the Syrian crisis as soon as possible.

For his part, Erslan presented a detailed report concerning the regional and Lebanese developments, praising the role of the Iranian Republic in standing by Lebanon and supporting its resistance against the Israeli occupation.

“The Islamic Republic has an important role in restoring peace and stability in the region, and can serve as a balance between rival parties,” he said.

Erslan had concluded his visit to Iran by meeting with Zarif, in the presence of his accompanying delegation and a number of Iranian officials.

Afterwards, Erslan met with the adviser to Imam Ali Khamenei for international affairs and the head of the strategic research center Ali Akbar Vilayati, with talks featuring high on the regional political situation.

Erslan and his delegation returned to Beirut on Thursday evening after a three-day visit to the Islamic Republic.
