HIC forms committee to elect Grand Mufti before Sept. 2014

The Higher Islamic Council (HIC) called on all the political parties to "immediately" form a new government in light of the dangerous situation Lebanon is going through, noting that the party hurdling the cabinet formation process should assume its national and political responsibilities.

In a statement released on Saturday following its regular meeting under the chairmanship of HIC’s deputy head Omar Mesqawi, the council condemned the explosions targeting the country, voicing rejection to all kinds of extremism.

The council also urged the international community to "seriously" deal with the Syrian tragedy which has reached an unprecedented level.

This as, the HIC formed a legal committee to prepare the required procedures for the election of a Grand Mufti before the end of Sheikh Mohammad Rashid Qabbani’s mandate in September 2014.
