Cardinal Rai heads to Vatican, says new government shouldn't be the source of discontent
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai called on Tuesday for the formation of a cabinet that does not lead to a new crisis in Lebanon, stressing the need to hold the presidential elections on time.

“The new cabinet should not cause a crisis if it is to be formed with the consent of all parties,” Rai told reporters at the Beirut International Airport before making a two-week trip to the Vatican.

“I don't think it is appropriate to create a new crisis,” he said, adding that "it would also be disrespectful for President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam to form a government that does not receive parliament's vote of confidence.”
