President Sleiman says defense strategy important for addressing terrorism

President Michel Sleiman stressed on Thursday the importance of the defense strategy in addressing terrorism in Lebanon.
 
“The measures taken to combat terrorism can be complemented by the resumption of  dialogue pertaining  the national defense strategy,” he added.

Sleiman's comments were made following his meeting with acting General Prosecutor Samir Hammoud over the latest findings on the terrorist blasts that have taken place in the country.

Similarly, President Sleiman praised the security, military, and judicial authorities on their dealing with the terrorist cases.

On Wednesday morning, two explosions rocked South Beirut's Bir Hassan region near the Iranian Cultural Center, across the Kuwaiti Embassy roundabout, killing at least ten people and wounding 129 others. The explosions were caused by suicide bombers and explosive-laden vehicles.

The Abdullah Azzam Brigades claimed responsibility for the twin attack via their twitter account, a group affiliated with al-Qaeda and one that had previously attacked the area citing Hezbollah's interference in the Syrian crisis as the main reason, demanding the release of Muslim inmates from Lebanese prisons.
