Minister Rifi: Lebanon is committed to STL's agreements and resolutions
Minister of Justice Ashraf Rifi issued on Tuesday a statement in which he reiterated Lebanon's commitment to cooperating with the Special Tribunal for Lebanon "based on the duty of the Lebanese state and its institutions to respect international resolutions and agreements signed between the Lebanese government and the United Nations."

The statement stressed that the cooperation was established in harmony with the signed protocols, regardless of the legal action adopted by the court against individuals or entities.

"The freedom of expression is protected by the Lebanese Constitution and the laws in force which preserve media freedoms, establish the right of the press to express an opinion, and provide legal protection for each journalist exercising his/her duty under the law, which prohibits publishing the names of witnesses, as this could reflect on the path of justice," Rifi concluded by saying.

On Thursday, the Special Tribunal for Lebanon subpoenaed Karma Mohamed Tahsin al Khayat from Al-Jadeed TV, as well as the station's parent company New TV S.A.L., to appear before the STL on two counts of Contempt and Obstruction of Justice.

Ibrahim Mohamed Al Amin from Al Akhbar, as well as the newspaper's parent company Akhbar Beirut S.A.L. have also been summoned on one count of Contempt and Obstruction of Justice.

The accused are being charged under Rule 60 bis (A) of the Rules of Procedure and Evidence and all the charges relate to the Ayyash et al. case.

The Special Tribunal for Lebanon was set up by the United Nations at the Lebanese government's request to try the alleged perpetrators of the 2005 bombing in which former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri and 21 others were killed.
