Activists voice rejection to recent presidential decree

“My Nationality is a Right for me and My Family” Campaign staged a sit-in on Wednesday in Beirut's Riad al-Solh Square, to protest against the latest presidential decree pertaining to granting the citizenship for several persons holding different nationalities.

The campaign’s activists noted that the said decree is based on sectarian distributions, calling on the authorities to grant the Lebanese women the right to give their families the Lebanese citizenship.

Lebanese women cannot currently pass their nationality on to their children, and activists have been campaigning against this inequality for years.

Movements have included protests and sit-ins against unequal citizenship rights for women, led by the campaign dubbed “My nationality is a right for me and my family.”
