Patriarch Rai: There is no Arab Spring without a Lebanese Christian Spring

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Rai said on Tuesday that "Lebanon and the Middle East are going through a difficult phase and we have a role to play in order to protect the Christians in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq."

"There is no Arab Spring without a Lebanese Christian Spring," Rai said from the patriarchal seat in Diman.

Lebanon has suffered a wave of sectarian violence linked to the conflicts in Syria and Iraq, which are fighting insurgencies and have lost control of large tracts of land to the Islamic State, a powerful jihadi militant group straddling the border.
