Vehicle inspection fee exemption continues despite need for new law

The deadline set by the Parliament for late-charge exemptions in many fields, mainly vehicle inspection, came to an end as the interior minister cannot extend the deadline through an amendment and would have to enact an entirely new law in order to do so. Therefore, Minister of Interior Marwan Charbel called on the ISF not to add additional fees on those who are late to pay their fees.

Charbel told LBCI that the exemption includes those who have not paid their fees in several years, adding that he will call for the amendment of the exemption law to extend the deadline during the Parliament’s first extraordinary session. “The exemption will be extended for two months starting from the date of the amendment”, he said.

Charbel said that he is personally against the exemption, adding that citizens must learn to pay on time within the period set by the concerned authorities.
