Security plan for Bekaa Valley kicks off

The security plan for the Bekaa Valley kicked off on Thursday at dawn with the search for various fugitives taking refuge in the region.

Joint forces from the Internal Security Forces' special panthers unit and the Lebanese army cordoned off the towns of Hawr Taala and Brital.

The plan seeks to crackdown on criminals in the Bekaa where certain regions, such as the town of Brital, are known to be a safe haven for car-theft gangs and drug dealers, as well as rings that kidnap people in exchange for ransom.

The Lebanese army also launched an operation in Beirut's southern suburbs and several other regions in a bid to halt security chaos across the country.
