ISF detains four persons linked to illegal smuggling ring

The Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau arrested on Thursday three women in the southern port city of Sidon related to a smuggling ring involved in the transportation of Lebanese and Palestinian nationals into Italy on a ferry via Libya.

Two Lebanese women identified as Ghinwa Z. and Rita R., who own a traveling agency, and a Palestinian female Hasibay H. were detained by police in Sidon.

The state-run National News Agency said that a Sudanese national was also detained by the police.

Investigations are ongoing with the arrestees on charges of facilitating the illegal travel of people to Libya.

A ferry carrying illegal migrants, including Lebanese and Palestinian nationals, traveling from Libya to Italy sank off the port of Sabratha.

The Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Helweh declared on Monday that seven illegal Palestinian immigrants were on board of the ferry and survived the ordeal, while one person remains missing.
