Speaker Berri calls for ending presidential vacuum, resuming legislation
Speaker Nabih Berri stressed Monday the need to complete constitutional duties, especially by "ending the presidential vacuum and resuming legislation," calling for supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces in protecting Lebanon’s borders and repelling terrorist threats.

In a statement he issued on the occasion of the anniversary of the July 2006 war, Berri said that “the Lebanese must tighten their union and define their priorities, which includes the stabilization of the security and monetary systems as well as thwarting terrorist plots.”

Speaker Berri added that Lebanon is still awaiting international initiatives to impose the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolution 1701, which will help in liberating the Shebaa Farms and the Lebanese part of al-Ghajar town from Israeli occupation, demarcating the Lebanese maritime borders and protecting Lebanon’s oil and gas reserves from theft attempts.

The 33-day July war was initiated when Hezbollah abducted a number of Israeli soldiers.

Israel fought a devastating war against the armed party that cost the lives of 1,200 people in Lebanon, mainly civilians, and 160 Israelis, mostly soldiers.
