Media committee: al-Mayadeen did not violate any item in contract with Telecom Min

Head of the Media and Communications Committee MP Hassan Fadlallah stressed that the investigations conducted into the case of al-Mayadeen, showed that the TV channel has not violated any item included in the contract signed with the Telecommunications Ministry.

He added that the channel’s issue with Arabsat Satellite Company must be handled in accordance with the contract signed between the two parties, pointing out that the Lebanese authorities are not concerned with this matter.

Following the committee’s meeting held in the presence of Information Minister Ramzi Jreij to discuss Arabsat’s decision to halt the broadcast of al-Mayadeen channel, MP Fadlallah noted that Lebanon is concerned with the freedom of press and the protection of media outlets that broadcast from the Lebanese territories.

“The issue between al-Mayadeen and Arabsat is of political nature,” he said.

Arabsat has pressed charges against the Lebanon-based channel for allegedly insulting an Arab country, shortly after the TV hosted a guest who spoke against Saudi Arabia over the deadly stampede during the pilgrimage in the Kingdom.

The committee will also discuss a draft law on media.
