Uneasy calm at Nahr el-Bared, LAF stoned

Citizen’s burn tires, uneasy calm prevails at Naher el Bared Saturday as inhabitants bury one of the youth killed in last night’s clash. Conflicting reports say there may be two victims.                 

Accordingly, a meeting which gathered representatives of different Palestinian factions occurred in order to quickly gather and contain the situation.                    

An official from the Northern Democratic Front Arkan Bader said, that the participants in the meeting reiterated that there is no enmity between Palestinians and the LAF - however denounced what they claim as mistreatment on the part of the LAF when they say they shot randomly at peaceful protestors leading to the death Ahmad Qassem.                  

They also called on the LAF to take procedures to calm the situation and to open an investigation into the shootings. They also called on the institution to lift military security off the camp.                  

For his part Palestinian Authority Leader Mahmoud Abbas issued his instructions via Palestinian ambassador to Lebanon Ashraf Dabour to make swift calls with Lebanese officials and contain the standoff.                   

The LAF clarified that on Friday evening and while a person was entering the Palestinian refugee camp of Naher el Bared via the LAF’s checkpoint, the LAF discovered that the individual had no legal papers pertaining to the scooter he was mounting.                

The LAF then proceeded to arrest him, which led to an up rise by inhabitants of the camp who set tires on fire and threw stones and the Lebanese military.              
The LAF declared that a number of people following the incident have been arrested, the roads were reopened.
