Berri meets with Pietton
Speaker Nabih Berri met with French Ambassador to Lebanon Denis Pietton in his office in Parliament to discuss the latest developments.

During the meeting, Berri praised the stances taken by Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai during his visit to Paris. Berri underscored the importance of the safety of UNIFIL’s units, calling on Pietton to mobilize France’s relations with Libya’s National Transitional Council (NTC) to settle the issue of the disappearance of Moussa Sadr and his companions.

Imam Moussa el Sadr is an Iranian philosopher elected as the highest Shiite cleric in Lebanon. In August 1978, al-Sadr and two companions Sheikh Muhammad Yaacoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine departed for Libya to meet with government officials. The three were never heard from again. According to the former Libyan envoy to the Arab League, al-Sadr was executed in Libya in 1978.
