Bassil reiterates call to liberate EDL
Energy Minister Gibran Bassil reiterated the call to liberate Electricité du Liban (EDL) on Friday, asking citizens intervention bring a solution to the electricity and contract workers problem.

Bassil explained that the electricity-generating ships that will arrive in 3 to 6 months will provide 260 Megawatts, adding that there are bids that will go on until the end of July to rehabilitate the Jiyyeh and Zouk power plants.

The power plants of Deir Ammar and Zahrani will also be overhauled”, Bassil said, adding that if all these projects are implemented without obstacles, electricity will be provided 24/7 within 24 to 30 months.

Earlier on Friday, the Committee of EDL Contract Workers and Collectors announced that it is not responsible for any negotiating delegation or contract worker who goes alone to negotiate.

In a statement, the committee clarified that in the case of a formation of a negotiating delegation, it would be done only by the written authorization of the Committee of EDL Contract Workers and Collectors, given that workers gave both the committee and the National Federation of Trade Unions and Employees and the EDL, this prerogative.
