Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun said on Tuesday that the 2013 budget must be completed on time, “before the beginning of the new fiscal year”. He hoped that it will be drafted on the basis of the required reforms. Following his bloc’s weekly meeting, Aoun called on the minister of finance to make the appropriate change in his official staff, since many “mistakes have been committed on record”.
Commenting on the proportional representation law passed by Cabinet earlier today, Aoun stated that it was rightly done in accordance to the preference of the majority of parties. He stressed on the need of its ratification in parliament, adding that certain modifications can be applied to the law. “Should it fail ratification, parties supporting unfair representation will be brought into the limelight", he said.
On another note, Aoun pointed out that the LAF lacks the sufficient equipment to face the capabilities of enemy countries, adding “our understanding with Hezbollah was based on a defensive strategy against Israel, and not against Jumblatt, Sunni’s, Armenians or even Maronites”, he concluded.
