What will happen after the 48-hour grace period granted by the Mokdad family?

The positivity brought by the visit of Interior Minister Marwan Charbel to Turkey to follow up on the issue of the 11 Lebanese abductees did not reach the case of Lebanese Hassan al-Mokdad abducted in Damascus.   

The 30-minute-long talks between Charbel and Turkish officials did not reveal anything about Hassan’s abductors, whereabouts or release conditions.    

Despite that, Turkish authorities are calling for the release of their citizen who is still in the custody of the Mokdad family, as a condition for the release of the 11 Lebanese pilgrims.   

In this regard, the family’s spokesperson, Maher al-Mokdad told LBCI that they have nothing to do with the 11 Lebanese abductees, stressing that the Turkish national will not be freed unless Hassan is released.       

Maher pointed out that the family has not yet received any news from the ICRC, adding that they are still waiting for the 48 hours to be up in order to take further measures.  

According to the interior Minister, negotiations between Turkey and Lebanon are still in their preliminary phase and the two countries are expected to meet soon in about 10 days. As for the case of Hassan al-Mokdad, it is in the hands of the ICRC that is keeping its silence.         

For its part, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Mokdad family for a grace period of 48 hours, i.e. after Eid al-Fitr, to provide them with an answer on Hassan.
