Jreissaty confirms adherence to “policy of silence” regarding Lebanese abductees

Labor Minister Salim Jreissaty stressed that the ministerial follow-up committee will adhere to the “policy of silence” regarding the issue of the 10 Lebanese abductees in Syria, adding that communications with Interior Minister Marwan Charbel will remain in effect until a solution for this matter is reached.      

Following a meeting with the ministerial committee, Jreissaty relayed Charbel’s remarks which stated that positive indications in the case are now coming into light.        

In this regard, the families of the remaining abductees in assigned the Director General of the General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim as the head of the negotiations unit tasked with the issue.        

A closed door meeting was held at the Ministry of Interior between Interior Minister Marwan Charbel and members of the Association of Muslim Scholars Sheikh Salem al-Rafei and Sheikh Nabil Rahim.          

According to information made available to LBCI, the meeting aims at discussing the security situation in Tripoli and the case of the 10 remaining Lebanese detainees in Syria.            

On another note, Charbel ordered the Directorate of Internal Security and that of the General Security to prepare fines for anyone who violates law 174 related to measures against public smoking in closed areas, effective as of 3/9/2012.
