March 14: procedural steps regarding Khwaykhat incident deferred until end of Papal visit
The General Secretariat of the March 14 announced that procedural steps in the case of Sheikh Abdul Wahed and his companion have been deferred until the end of Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to Lebanon.

The Secretariat decided after an extraordinary meeting to form a follow-up committee “to keep the issue of Sheikh Abdul Wahid and his companion alive”.
The Secretariat added that a link is at play, referring to the release of the officers on a date close to that of the Papal visit, arguing that release of the officers intended to further destabilize the country “in accordance to the wishes of the Syrian regime”.

The decision of the military court to release the officers bore outrage in Akkar, noting that it has made every effort to contain the repercussions of this decision and will to do so, the Secretariat concluded.

An emergency meeting will be held on Thursday, one day ahead of the Pope’s visit, the Secretariat said.  .
