Lieutenant Colonel Abbas Jemaa died of his wounds sustained during the raids carried out by the Lebanese army in Beirut’s Southern Suburbs on Friday.  

Wrapped in the Lebanese flag, and holding the awards he won during his military service, Colonel Jemaa's body was shrouded in the hall of Rawdat al-Shaheedein.                 

The body was surrounded by relatives, family members, and colleagues from the army including officers and military personnel who all participated in accepting condolences from military and popular delegations.                      

Among those who came for offering condolences was the PM, deputies, as well as officials from Amal Movement and Hezbollah.                   

In this context, the Army Command noted Colonel Abbas Jemaa's sacrifices, stressing that the army will not hesitate exerting sacrifices for the security and integrity of Lebanon.                      

Prime Minister Najib Mikati offered condolences to Army Command and Jemaa's family on the martyrdom of Colonel Abbas Jumaa.      

The Army Command issued a statement mourning Jemaa who succumbed to his wounds while fulfilling his security duty in Ghbayreh on 21/9/2012.

Amid a pursuit of wanted citizen Antar Karaki, an army patrol clashed with a number of armed persons in Beirut Soutehern Suburbs' Ghbayreh area on Friday.
              
Clashes led to injuries among some ranks in the LAF some of which were serious and the pursued assailant, also reportedly injured managed to escape. On Saturday evening, the Lebanese Army succeeded in arresting Karaki in the Beirut southern suburb area of al-Kafaat.

It is worth noting that Colonel Jemaa was born in 1970 in Bzebdine-Nabatieh, married and has two children.                   

He was promoted to the rank of Major in 2009 and was promoted after his death to the rank of Colonel.

The Martyr Colonel has several medals and was congratulated by the Army Chief several times.

It was notable that the wife of the martyr Jemaa gave birth to a child the night of his death.
