Journalist Fidaa Itani arrives to Lebanon

Journalist Fidaa Itani stressed that he was detained for six days, while the 9 Lebanese hostages have been in custody since several months, calling on authorities to act and deploy efforts to release them.

Upon his arrival to Beirut International Airport on board a Turkish plane on Thursday night, Itani noted that “he realized during the last few months that the Syrian revolution is in danger and has derailed.”

Information Minister Walid Daouq welcomed Itani at the airport.

After his release, Itani tweeted: “I thank all my friends for all their kind words and solidarity, I am free again, though I never felt that I was a detainee or a hostage.”

Itani was detained by rebels in Aleppo's Aazaz region on the 27th of October. The rebels stated through their Facebook page that the Lebanese journalist’s work “no longer serves their revolution.”

On the 28th of October, Itani appeared in a video reassuring everyone that he was in good health, clarifying that he is under house arrest in the custody of Liwaa Aasifat al Chamal in Aazaz.

On October 31st, Liwaa Aasifat al-Chamal had announced that Fidaa Itani will be sent to Lebanon through Turkey in a few hours.
