Ardiel to NNA: UNIFIL launched investigation into Houla explosion
UNIFIL Deputy Chief of Strategic Communications and Public Information Kandice Ardiel said on Friday that in the early morning hours of April 8, 2021, the UNIFIL peacekeepers recorded an explosion, “which later media reports said was caused by a missile near the village of Houla within its area of operations in south Lebanon.”

Ardiel’s comments were made in response to a question from the state-run National News Agency about the explosion that took place on Thursday morning in the southern town of Houla, which coincided with an alleged Israeli raid on Syria.

“UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander Stefano Del Col was in immediate contact with all parties,” she noted.

“UNIFIL has launched an investigation to determine the facts, and whether there has been a violation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1701,” Ardiel stressed.
