Severe flooding at National Museum

The National Museum was damaged when rainwater leaked into the institution’s warehouse and laboratory, Saturday morning, affecting several archaeological artifacts.

The leakage is likely due a blockage in the sewage system underneath the roads surrounding the construction site along Damascus road. Water from the pipes began flowing inside the warehouse, which in turn caused great damage to some files and artifacts.

The museum officials are working on solving the problem, salvaging as many artifacts as possible. They will assess the damages in order to determine responsibility for this destructive episode and undertake all appropriate measures.
