Abboud: Debate over wage hike turned into a flea market

Tourism Minsiter Fadi Abboud said Monday that the debate over the wage hike issue is deviating from its intended path and descending into “flea market bargaining.”

Abboud told Voice of Lebanon that “if we look at the Lebanese economic issue from a realistic perspective we will realize that the solution lies in creating job opportunities for the unemployed Lebanese who constitute 35% of the Lebanese community.”

In his concluding remarks, Abboud highlighted the necessity of setting a comprehensive reform plan that includes the social security and custom tariff, voicing rejection of any increase in taxes.

“Taxes constitute a democratic right; however, they should not exceed what is reasonable or else new demands to increase wages will emerge every two years,” he added.
