Aoun: US sanctions do not prevent Bassil from running for presidency

President Michel Aoun said on Saturday that "Lebanon may slip into "a constitutional chaos" because of the presidential vacuum and under a caretaker government that has incomplete powers.”

Aoun’s comments were made during an interview with Reuters whereby he noted that US sanctions do not prevent head of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Gebran Bassil, from running for the presidency.

As for the demarcation of the maritime borders, Aoun noted that Hezbollah’s role in this regard was useful as a deterrent in the indirect negotiations to demarcate the maritime border with Israel.

He also considered that the gas exploration as the last chance for economic recovery in the country.
