Connelly welcomes cabinet’s decision regarding Syrian refugees

US Ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly welcomed the Lebanese cabinet’s decision to adopt a comprehensive plan that meets the needs of the Syrian refugees and praised the cabinet’s decision to fulfill its humanitarian obligations toward the refugees.                     

Connelly added that part of these obligations is keeping the borders open and protecting refugees from discomfort.                                              

The Ambassador stressed on the importance of international assistance to the humanitarian crisis caused by the increasing flow of refugees.                                      

After meeting with the Minister of Energy and Water Gebran Bassil, Connelly assured the US commitment in meeting the needs of Syrian refugees and their hosting countries.                                    

 Connelly concluded by saying that the US has provided so far almost $ US 210 million to citizens in Syria and those who fled to neighboring countries.                             

Separately, Connelly met with the Kataeb Leader Amine Gemayel at his residence in Bekfaya.           

After the meeting, Gemayel called on countries to understand Lebanon’s limited economic and financial capacities which make the country unable to bear the burden of displacement.
