Geagea: Overthrowing Syrian regime will make Hezbollah adherent to its weapons

LF Chief Samir Geagea said on Monday that there's a new attempt by all political parties to reach a new electoral law that best represents all the Lebanese factions.           

Geagea told CBC Egypt that the current cabinet has failed on all aspects including the security, political, and economic fields and added that the cabinet is not defeated yet "for fear of Hezbollah's arms".                

Geagea added that Syria had been a passage for Hezbollah to achieve its goals and mentioned that the latter has replaced it for the current time.         

"Hezbollah will become adherent to its weapons after toppling the Syrian regime, and will work on strengthening its arms through other sources," Geagea said.                         

"If I were the Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, I would have dismissed the military wing of the party, and handed over its weapons to the Lebanese state so I may continue working in the political field," he added.             

Geagea pointed out that overthrowing the Syrian President Bashar Assad will make Hezbollah more stringent since the latter does not seek any parliamentary gains or seats, but instead "Hezbollah has a plan to build an Islamic nation as a succession for the doctrine of Wilayat al-Faqih".
