Suspect in Arsal Army attack freed on bail

The state run National News Agency reported on Tuesday that The Military Appeals Court ordered the release on bail of a man suspected of involvement in an attack on the army in the town of Arsal.

The Court's President Judge Alice Shabtini, ordered the release of Nawfal al-Hujairi in an exchange of a LBP 1 million bail, NNA added.

The sentence came despite the request of the Military Examining Magistrate Fadi Sawan to uphold the decision to keep the suspect in custody.

The news agency added that four other suspects requested Sawan to order their release.

Two Lebanese soldiers were killed last February when an armed group ambushed their patrol that was in the area to pursue a suspect wanted on terrorism charges.

The ambush raised tensions between the residents and the Lebanese army after they accused it of entering the town in civilian vehicles and clothes.
