Charbel: Consensual security does not exist

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel stressed on Friday that President Michel Sleiman and PM-designate Tammam Salam are the ones who decide whether or not to appoint him as a minister in the new cabinet, hoping that all the troubles will end during Salam’s mandate and that the new cabinet will be one of understanding.

In a statement to “Free Lebanon” Radio station, Charbel said that “consensual security does not exist”, pointing out that Lebanon’s security is directly linked to the political situation.

Commenting on the elections, Charbel said that it will be impossible to reach a new electoral law if the political parties do not make compromises, reiterating his call for an electoral law that “fits Lebanon”.
