MP Aoun scorns abduction of Bishops, expresses support to Eastern church's call for peace

Head of the Change and Reform Bloc MP Michel Aoun, accompanied by members of his bloc, visited on Tuesday the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of al-Balamand in Koura to express solidarity with the patriarchate after the abduction of two bishops in Aleppo yesterday.        

In this regard, MP Aoun voiced his support for the joint statement issued by the Greek Orthodox and Assyrian Orthodox Patriarchates of Antioch and All the East.           

The statement addressed the whole world to exert utmost efforts in order to stop violence in Syria, so the country may regain its role as a land of security and coexistence.       

The statement also addressed the churches in the world to work for saving Christians in the east.                            

According to Agence France Presse, the two abducted bishops were released.                      

Later on, a new statement was issued by the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Balamand saying that the patriarchate did not receive any tangible evidence regarding the release of the two bishops.                           

On another note, MP Michel Aoun said that political factions did not reach consensus regarding the electoral law asking other parties to present their proposals.          

“We cannot accept others saying that the Orthodox Gathering’s electoral draft is unconstitutional, he who does not want this law, let him express this at parliament,” MP Aoun concluded.
