Washington to back UNIFIL renewal in Lebanon for the final time, US envoy says

U.S. envoy to the United Nations Dorothy Shea warned on Thursday that Washington’s backing for the renewal of the UNIFIL peacekeeping mission in Lebanon may not continue beyond this year.

“This is the last time we are supporting the renewal of UNIFIL’s mandate,” Shea said, urging the international community to shift its focus toward strengthening the Lebanese Army over the coming year.
