Gemayel meets with Italian FM, tackles Syrian file

      
Kataeb party leader Amin Gemayel held on Saturday a meeting with Italy's Foreign Minister Emma Bonino at Rome's Foreign Ministry where he tackled the situation in Lebanon, the regional developments and the EU-US actions undertaken in order to find a settlement to the Syrian crisis.         

For her part, Bonino stressed that Italy supports Lebanon's stability and works on keeping the UNIFIL forces in the country, highlighting the need to hold an international conference in a bid to settle the file of Syrian refugees.           

In parallel, Gemayel pointed out that the US Secretary of State John Kerry, who met with his Italian counterpart two days ago, is adamant on reaching an agreement with the international community in order to settle the Syrian crisis, under the condition of holding a dialogue between the regime and the opposition and reaching common grounds over a transitional period.        

In this regard, the Kataeb leader said that he discussed with Bonino the file of Syrian refugees in Lebanon and the need to prioritize the issue in the context of an international conference that shall be held under the auspices of the United Nations, since "the Kuwait conference did not pay off".           

"Lebanon became incapable of sheltering an additional number of Syrians after their number has reached more than one million refugees," Gemayel added.
