Lebanon President meets French envoy, seeks support to consolidate ceasefire

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun met French presidential envoy Jean-Yves Le Drian at the presidential palace in Baabda on Thursday, where discussions focused on efforts to reinforce a fragile ceasefire arrangement and prevent further escalation.

President Aoun welcomed assistance from friendly and allied countries aimed at consolidating the ceasefire, stressing the importance of avoiding any pretext that could be used to justify continued Israeli non-withdrawal from Lebanese territory. He said that any coordinated international effort in this direction would have positive implications for ongoing diplomatic efforts and negotiations.

For his part, Le Drian said his visit to Lebanon was intended to express France’s continued support and solidarity with the country, adding that Paris remains closely engaged with Lebanese affairs amid the current regional tensions.
