Judge Hatem Madi retires, to be replaced by Judge Samir Hammoud

Media reports said on Monday that General Prosecutor Hatem Madi retired for reaching the legal retirement age of 68.

Madi was replaced by acting Judge Samir Hammoud who will serve as acting prosecutor until the formation of a new government and the appointment of a new judge.

Judge Madi was appointed by the Lebanese government as State Prosecutor on Wednesday 10th of October 2012.

He was born on the 10th of June 1945 and held various judicial positions including Chief of the Supreme Council for the trial of Presidents and Ministers, and Chief of the acting court of Cassation.

In 2001 Judge Madi was appointed as the Investigative Judge of Beirut and stayed in this position until 2005 whereby he played a prominent role in the case of the bankruptcy of the al-Madina Bank.
