Turkey says US is its 'only counterpart' in Syria

Washington is Turkey's only interlocutor for developments in northeastern Syria, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said Friday as Ankara warned it could take military action against Kurdish fighters in the area.

"The U.S. is our only counterpart... Frankly, we don't take into account countries that try to advance their interests in Syria by hiding behind U.S. power," he said in what was widely understood to be a reference to France.
