Israel claims killing of Ali Larijani in strike in Tehran

Israeli military spokesperson Avichay Adraee said that Israel had killed Ali Larijani in a targeted airstrike in Tehran.

In a statement posted on X, Adraee said the strike was carried out by the Israeli Air Force based on intelligence from military intelligence, describing it as a "precise operation" conducted deep inside Iran.

He claimed that Larijani, identified as secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, had effectively acted as a central decision-maker within the Iranian system following the reported killing of Ali Khamenei.

Adraee said Larijani had long been considered one of the most prominent figures within Iran's leadership and was closely aligned with Khamenei. He added that Larijani had overseen political and security coordination for Iran and played a key role in managing its regional and international activities.

The Israeli spokesperson also accused Larijani of leading crackdowns during recent protests in Iran and being directly involved in what he described as violent repression against demonstrators.
