REPORT: How many more victims of domestic violence before a law is passed?

The Baysour incident, where Rabih al-Ahmad was severely beaten and had his penis amputated after marrying a young woman from Aley despite the objection of her parents, reflected a new kind of violence against women in Lebanon, a discrimination banning a girl to marry a man of her choice.

This as the parliamentary joint committees will discuss on Monday the law to protect women against domestic violence; a law that does not include unmarried women.

This report will shed light on the latest developments regarding this case, and will examine the situation of Rabih al-Ahmad’s wife who awaits the verdict that will be issued against her family.
