REPORT: Chehade Chdoud admits facilitating Sukeina Ismail’s escape

Sources reported to LBCI that Chehade Chdoud confessed on Wednesday to the Internal Security Forces Information Bureau that he facilitated the escape of Sukeina Ismail, charged with involvement in terrorist acts and escorting individuals, mainly a suspect identified as Ahmad Merhi, who allegedly transported the two booby-trapped cars used in the Tripoli twin blasts, from Syria to Lebanon.

Syrian national Sukeina Ismail was charged on Tuesday, November 05 by the State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr with plotting to transfer the car bombs that exploded in Tripoli.

As for Chehade Chdoud, he was arrested at the al-Abboudiyeh border-crossing after being charged earlier on Tuesday with smuggling suspect Sukeina Ismail from Lebanon to Syria.

Judge Saqr also charged on Tuesday Arab Democratic Party leader former MP Ali Eid and his driver Ahmed Mohammed Ali with escorting suspect Ahmad Merhi, wanted for his alleged involvement in the same case.

Last week, the Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau summoned Eid for interrogations over his alleged involvement in the August twin bombings. Eid has so far refused to attend the interrogation session citing distrust in the ISF as his main alibi.

On Friday the 23rd of August, two explosions rocked the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli near the al-Taqwa and al-Salam mosques, leaving 45 killed and almost 500 others injured. The blasts came amid rising tension in Lebanon resulting from Syria's civil war, which has sharply polarized the country along sectarian lines and between supporters and opponents of the regime of President Bashar Assad.
