REPORT: Sheikh Al-Rafei: The state did not handle the perpetrators Tripoli’s twin blasts seriously

Taqwa Mosque Sheikh Salem Al-Rafei assured on Friday that he called on Tripoli’s residents to practice self-restraint and to avoid reckless reactions.

In an interview with LBCI, Sheikh Al-Rafei said that the state did not handle the perpetrators accused of being involved in the northern city’s twin blasts seriously when the Internal Security Forces Information Bureau unveiled their identities.

“The residence of Youssef Diab who confessed to this crime was not raided either,” he added.

On Friday the 23rd of August, two explosions rocked the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli near the al-Taqwa and al-Salam mosques, leaving 45 killed and almost 500 others injured.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
