REPORT: Discussions ongoing to form new cabinet

Speaker Nabih Berri met on Tuesday with caretaker Minister of Health Ali Hassan Khalil and caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Wael Abou Faour.

The meetings came following Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam's latest stance stating his persistence on the rotation of cabinet portfolios.

This as sources told LBCI that National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt held talks on Monday with Iran's ambassador to Lebanon Ghadanfar Rokenabadi.

According to sources, both officials agreed on granting the Ministry of Finance to Change and Reform bloc leader MP Michel Aoun, Speaker Berri however refused.

Similarly, a meeting was held between PM-Designate Salam and MPs Ahmad Fatfat and Robert Ghanem with discussions featuring high over "making concessions to facilitate the formation of new cabinet."

The cabinet formation process reached a deadlock after Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun insisted that his bloc retain the Energy and Telecommunications Ministries. In addition to his rejection to the rotation of portfolios.

This as Prime Minister-Designate Tammam Salam is holding onto the concept of “fair, balanced and comprehensive rotation of portfolios.”

This report will shed light on the discussions taking place between various Lebanese leaders over the formation of new cabinet.
