REPORT: Constitution grants cabinet thirty-day deadline to present policy statement

Three weeks after the formation of the cabinet, 8 sessions have been held in an attempt to draft a ministerial statement and reach an agreement over the “People, Army and Resistance” equation and the Baabda Declaration, but the drafting committee does not have much time to complete its duty.

In this context, according to the article 64 of the Lebanese Constitution, “the government must present its general statement of policy to the Parliament to gain its confidence within thirty days of the date of issuance of the Decree in which the government was formed.”

The article also stipulates that “the government shall not exercise its powers before it gains confidence nor after it has resigned or is considered resigned, except in the narrow sense of a care-taker government.”
