REPORT: Air traffic controllers suspend work for 2 hours at Beirut International Airport

Air traffic controllers suspended on Tuesday work at Beirut International Airport for two hours in protest of the cabinet's failure to include them in the new wage scale draft-law.

Air traffic resumed work normally at 12:00 p.m.

The Union Coordinating Committee said that it will stage a strike on Wednesday over the failure to refer the new wage scale to parliament for approval.

The Union Coordinating Committee, a coalition of private and public school teachers and public sector employees, is expected to hold a strike at Beirut's Riyad al-Soleh Square after the joint parliamentary committees failed to finalize discussions over the new wage scale.

Former Prime Minister Najib Mikati's cabinet endorsed in 2012 a new salary scale for public employees.

President Michel Suleiman signed the decree in June 2013, which was referred to the joint parliamentary committee to study it.
