REPORT: Patriarch Rai says parliament should take into consideration people's rights
Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai stated on Sunday that the new president should grant legitimacy to all constitutional institutions, stressing that electing a new president requires time and deliberations.

During his homily on the occasion of Palm Sunday, Patriarch Rai expressed his hope that House Speaker Nabih Berri announces in the upcoming days the beginning of legislative sessions to elect a new president.

As for the series of ranks and salaries, Rai said the parliament should take into consideration the people's rights and the state's capabilities when studying the new wage scale, stressing that some “needed reforms” should be tackled during parliamentary session.
